BEGINNER LEVEL: How to Train Your Horse to Love a Bath with a Garden Hose.
Most horse owners wash their horses by hand using a sponge and a bucket. Horses love the personal attention and feel safe when you wash them with a sponge or use a brush to clean them.
But there are times when you need to clean your horse with a garden hose and spray head. This is a frightening experience for a horse who has never been sprayed with a hose. If your horse has never seen a garden hose or heard the sound of the water spraying from the head, it may interpret the hose as a snake or some creature that is trying to bite it, or they may fear the direct force of the water spray. So in the beginning, your horse will most likely try to run away in fear or try to defend itself and injure you.
In this video lesson I illustrate how to train your horse to love a garden hose and the 5 Most Important Rules of Horse Training I follow in order to eliminate my horse’s fear of a garden hose and the force of the water.
In the process of training your horse, you must follow through. Don’t stop halfway. Complete the process, no matter how long it takes. Once they know you are not giving up, they will comply. They will learn that they can trust you and, they can learn to enjoy learning. Horses can be stubborn. They can push your buttons, get you upset and, fight you the whole way. But, if you remain calm and consistent, you will develop a relationship. They will love you and want you to teach them. Watch this video to see how it works. Enjoy!
